Before You Vote, Go by Conduct of Politicians and Not their Words

By: Parmanand Pandey, Advocate, Supreme Court (Secretary General IPC)

Every election brings some nuggets of wisdom for electorates. Many things are spoken by the leaders; some contain information, some disinformation but most of them are wild allegations. People understand them in their own way to finally take any decision. However, this election has thrown up some points which are very important for every electorate of the country. Let us start with an apolitical interview of Narendra Modi given to a Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar.

During his interview, he narrated an interesting but very revealing story which has completely debunked and dismantled the cover of hypocrisy worn by most of the Samajwadi leaders to befool the people. He told that once he got down at the Pune railway station and started going on foot to the nearby RSS office. One auto rickshaw wala followed him for some distance. Then he asked him (Modi) to sit in the rickshaw because he was away from the public gaze. The rickshaw wala told him that he mistook him to be a Samajwadi because they avoid boarding rickshaws at the railway to demonstrate their simplicity and frugality. He told Modi that hypocrisy is the hallmark of every socialist.

By narrating this story in spontaneity, he unmasked the duplicity and the fake character of the socialists in his own inimitable style. History bears ample examples when most of the socialists, barring a few respectable exceptions, have proven to be utterly dishonest. They have done immense damage to the social fabric of the country. Workers, farmers and students have all been cheated by them. Take any socialist and you will find that he/she will talk about simplicity, equality and brotherhood but in the heart of his or her heart, he/she will be the greediest, rank opportunist and hypocrite of the top order. A socialist often speaks against the greed of the money but look at any of present Samajwadi and you will be flabbergasted to know that how they have milked the public money, whenever or where ever they came to power, to amass the wealth; be it Mulayam Singh Yadav, his son Akhilesh Yadav, Ram Bilas Paswan or Lalu Prasad Yadav or even George Fernandes to name a few.

Most of the socialists speak against the casteism, but they are so casteist to the core which stinks to the high heaven. The similar duplicity is also found, more or less, among the so-called Gandhians. What an irony that those who publicly advocate for the annihilation of the caste they survive only on the casteism; again be it Mulayam Singh Yadav, Lalu Yadav or Mayawati (she is the follower of Baba Saheb Ambedkar, who wrote a book on the annihilation of castes, which was based on wrong premises’ but that is a different issue).  Socialists have worked as the bulwark of divisive and communal policies regardless of the fact whether they are in the Congress or in Socialist or Communist parties.

Can anybody deny that two illustrious politicians of the country namely; Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia sowed the seeds casteism in India, which has toxified the society even after more than 70 years of independence? Otherwise, there cannot be any reason when Kanhaiya Kumar is asking for votes in the name of being a Bhumihar and Kejriwal flaunt to be a Baniya.

Another thing that we have seen in this election is to repeat the falsehood ad nauseam attributing it to somebody which he or she never said. For example, it has been drilled into the minds of the people during the campaigning of 2014 elections that Narendra Modi had promised Rs. 15 Lakhs to be transferred to everybody’s account and he would give two crore white collar jobs every year. Nobody knows where did he say and when did he say? Each and every word of the Narendra Modi, especially from 2014, has been audio and video graphed but nobody has been able to produce even single audio or video reminding of his promises.

We have also seen that the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has proved himself to a Doctor of lies. During the last assembly election, he had said that every ticket seeker would be interviewed if he/ she has read his book ‘Swaraj’ or not, although this criterion was thrown to the wind at the time of ticket distribution. It is a different matter that the book epitomises and exposes his colossal ignorance about the history, politics or even the constitution of India. This book is not even worth the paper on which it has been printed. I have also read this book on the recommendation of a very dear Advocate friend of mine in the Supreme Court. Look at the shamelessness of this man who says all the problems of Delhi would be solved in a jiffy if the full statehood is granted to it. This man has been telephoning almost everybody in Delhi through his pre-recorded voice that the BJP government has, in cahoots, with the Election Commission got millions of names removed from the electoral list but, it was found to be totally false.

One is compelled to ask a question that during his tenure of more than four years of governance, how many new colleges have been opened in Delhi? He will turn the other way around. How many hospitals have been opened by him? Then he will have no reply? Except for some third grade Mohalla Clinics which are run with the help of half-baked doctors, there has been nothing to his credit to improve the health services.

His contribution to improving the standard of education has been negligible. The departments working under the Delhi government particularly, the Labour and the Revenue Departments are corrupt to the core. So how can this man be believed? The answer is not far to seek.
